Stormwater Management Plan

Council is inviting community feedback on the development of a Stormwater Management Plan for the townships of Loxton and Waikerie.

This project, jointly funded by the Stormwater Management Authority and Council, aims to establish a comprehensive and integrated approach to managing and improving stormwater in the district's two major townships.

The primary goal of the plan is to identify areas prone to flooding, particularly those affected by heavy rainfall or low-lying points where water accumulates, causing inundation.

The key objectives of the Stormwater Management Plan are to:

  • Identify and address stormwater management issues, risks, and opportunities within the catchment,
  • Define the roles and responsibilities of all stakeholders involved, including local and state government agencies,
  • Set clear objectives to protect and enhance the economic, environmental, social, and cultural values in a catchment, with a focus on stormwater quality, water security, and flood hazard,
  • Identify and prioritise investments and initiatives that will address these objectives in a coordinated and effective way,
  • Develop an implementation plan for the prioritised investments and initiatives, and
  • Establish a framework for ongoing monitoring and review.

To assist in the development of the plan, Council has engaged a specialist surface water engineer, who will focus on addressing known areas of localised flooding in Loxton and Waikerie. Council is also looking to hear from residents to identify additional locations where flooding or drainage issues may be occurring.

To provide your input, please utilise the Interactive Map below to submit location-specific feedback. Hard copies are also available in person at the Loxton or Waikerie Council offices upon request.

Community engagement will conclude at 5pm on Friday 29 November 2024.
